Construction of a concrete dome

Airs de Paris Exhibition- Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris - 25 April to 15 August 2007

For the Airs de Paris Exhibition François Curlet invents an architectural technique which almost seems too easy - concrete is poured over a canvas sphere which is then inflated.

In contrast to the modern use of concrete, Curlet proposes a postmodern architecture that’s humorous and nonchalant. The technique is even used for benches in the exhibition. Arkheïa extended the patent they had for this concret to realise this project.

The Pompidou Centre celebrates its 30th birthday with Airs de Paris, a vast mixed media exhibition that brings together sixty-three contemporary artists and creators (landscape artists, designers and architects). The title of the exhibition refers to the work Airs de Paris by Marcel Duchamp, who was celebrated in a retrospective at the Pompidou Centre in 1977.

The exhibition has two sections and includes pieces from 1970 to today around themes of the town and urban life. Paris is the common denominator, as all the artists and creators in the exhibition have lived, worked or had projects associated with the city. A large number of orders and unpublished productions were designed for the occasion.
